Since 2007 when Apple came out with the first generation iPhone, it is becoming more and more apparent that consumers are shifting their attention online. However, do you really understand how much of your consumer base is online at any given time?
Take a look at this graphic by @LoriLewis and @OfficiallyChadd which breaks down some of the most popular and newest internet trends in 2018. According to this, 174,000 people are scrolling through Instagram and 973,000 are using Facebook per minute every day. Users are consuming these medias at unbelievable rates, but consuming nonetheless, so if you are not on top of your social media presence it is very likely you are being passed over.
Google is bringing in 3.7 million searches per minute and YouTube, which is owned by Google and falls in their AdWords network, brings in 4.3 million views per minute totaling 8 million potential customers for your ads to be served to.
These numbers poise digital ad servicing as an extremely important player in any marketing strategy. So why are smaller companies so scared? Relative to a traditional media like TV, on average, the cost per thousand is significantly less. Impressions online are also much more measurable than TV. Technology is adapting every day to make targeting more and more specific to benefit advertisers and strategies are more easily adjustable to maximize effectiveness.
