Tips for Small Businesses to Make a Big Impact on Snapchat

Snapchat has changed a lot since it jumped onto the app scene in 2011. It has become a big part of some big name brands’ marketing and leading the way on the evolution of advertising within apps.

Snapchat has over 100 million daily active users. Of those 100 million daily active users, many are millennials. Snapchat is ranked sixth with highest concentration of millennial users (ages 18-34). Businesses are taking advantage of reaching this younger demographic through a variety of ways.

Here are some tips for your small business Snapchat campaign.

Geofilters. They are all the rage of Snapchat right now. What once was only a free Community Geofilter has now evolved into On-Demand Geofilters. You will notice when you swipe through filters in certain locations a certain picture will pop up, usually relating to a nearby local landmark, city name, university, etc. Now, with the On-Demand filters you will notice a business’ logo, a design for an event in the area, or even your neighbor’s NYE bash might have a geofilter.

These On-Demand geofilters are having a big impact for small businesses. Snapchat’s popularity is an instant win for businesses trying to reach their nearby community. These geofilters are not free like the community based ones, and can only run for up to 30 days. The price range depends on the “geofence” or reach of your designed geofilter.

Impressions. Many brands use coupons or giveaways on Snapchat as a tool to draw consumers in. Following a brand on Snapchat sometimes gives you an exclusive offer or coupon to use. In turn, the brand’s Snapchat feed is gaining followers—working wonders for impressions among consumers. “Snapchat Stories” is the easiest way for brands to use Snapchat. This means anyone that follows your brand will see your Snapchat(s) for up to 24 hours. They can be replayed countless times and it is more time efficient than individually sending snaps.

Content. Lastly remember, content is still reigning king. At the end of the day, if what you are posting is interesting and cool, Snapchat users will continue to view your stories and engage with your content. A behind the scenes look of your business or events is an easy way to intrigue users. Anything visually funny is always a plus.
