2016 was a big year for shoppers. There were some big changes in the world of delivery. Big names like Amazon and Domino’s introduced the “one-click ordering.” The fewer steps to placing an order or purchasing via your phone has been a huge trend this past year.
Delivery apps were also popping up or becoming more popular in 2016. Uber launched UberEATS in May 2016 to keep up with other food delivery apps. But the biggest trend in food delivery apps has been grocery delivery.
Fighting for a parking spot. Hustling through the sea of people. Waiting for what seems like hours in the check out lines. We’ve all been there and will potentially never have to “go there” again with the convenience of food delivery apps, such as Instacart.
Instacart teamed up with big retailers such as Target, Costco, and Whole Foods Market to deliver groceries straight to your door in two hours.
So which grocery products were consumers buying in 2016?
SuperMarket News pulled together insights from the most popular items Instacart users were ordering, and the products were pretty on point to the shift we saw in food trends. Organic. Gluten-free. Dairy-free. Clean. Some popular products on the list were: Halo Top ice cream, Califia Farms plant-based creamers, and Harvest Snaps snacks.
These food trends have remained on the list the past few years and only seem to be getting more popular. What does this information tell us about consumers using apps and technology to do their shopping?
