We wrote a blog on social media shopping recently that gave an overview of what cool features are available for brands to build an e-commerce presence on several platforms. Another platform has fully joined the social media shopping fun. Pinterest has announced that they have moved their shopping ads out of testing and now the program is available for advertisers. Pinterest shopping ads became available last year but only for select brands like IKEA, eBay, Lowe’s and others were able to use the testing model of the platform’s shopping abilities.
Pinterest is now expanding the shopping capabilities to make it useful for many businesses and brands. A recent study showed that 90% of Pinterest users make purchase decisions and 70% use the platform to find new products. Those stats are pushing more brands to use Pinterest as their main social media shopping platform.
The shopping ads will allow brands and retailers to upload product catalogs directly to the Pinterest platform. Pinterest is also expanding several of their platform features to incorporate into a shopping experience. Features such as Lens, Instant Ideas and Shop the Look will be continue to see changes that give more power to brands. The platform is seeing users conduct more than 600 million visual searches every month. Pinterest is looking to expanding their visual search technology to bring more users to the items of greatest interest to them. This will be extremely helpful because of the way Pinterest matches items to a user’s search history and interests.
