The Super Bowl is one of the most anticipated sporting events in the world. It’s the very last football game of the entire season between college and professional leagues so millions tune in to watch it. It is also known for the ads that run during the game. Many of the most popular brands in the world spend big money to showcase their new commercials for the year. After watching trending topics on Google, Twitter and Facebook, we compiled the top three ads from the Super Bowl.
Good Odds – Toyota
Toyota’s commercial was one of the first to show after the game started and they set the bar pretty high. With the Olympics around the corner, they created an ad that focused on the story of eight-time Paralympic gold medalist, Lauren Woolstencrocft. Many people on social media commented about how they had not heard her story before. Lauren became a trending Google topic within minutes after the commercial. This will generate more engagement for her story along with the Paralympic games and #Toyota.
Icelandic Vikings – Ram
Some of the best commercials are ones that some would consider being “over the top.” #Ram developed an ad that watched a group of Vikings travel to Minnesota (where the Super Bowl was held). They brought with them a Viking ship along with a Ram pickup truck. They traveled by land and sea to make it to the Super Bowl only to find out that the Minnesota Vikings would not be playing in the game as they approached the stadium. The commercial saw the most engagement from fans on the Vikings and rival team’s fans going back and forth about whose teams were better with Dodge Ram seeing their social engagement greatly increase.
Fire and Ice – Doritos and Mountain Dew
This was a fan favorite! #Doritos and #MountainDew partnered to promote both of their new products. The star-studded commercial featured Peter Dinklage rapping a Busta Rhymes hit and Morgan Freeman doing the same with a Missy Elliott single. From a social standpoint, the most frequent comments attached to this commercial were some variation of “the best commercial of the night.” Many of those tweets and posts included tags for Doritos and Mountain Dew.
The Super Bowl brought some great commercials that are surely the talk of many offices today. Here at Catalyst, we pride ourselves on developing content and ads that will captivate audiences. Need help developing a memorable ad? Give us a shout!
