Food trends come and go and change a little bit each year. The list goes on and on: from the obsession with avocados to clean eating. One thing is for certain, healthy eating and the choice to go organic has heated up and this fire appears to be staying a blaze.
Big brands have taken notice of the organic craze and jumped on the bandwagon by offering more all-natural and organic options. Grocery chains are getting in on the organic trend as well. Aldi announced in 2016 that they are adding more organic-food brands, removing artificial ingredients from some of their products, and adding more gluten-free options.
So far this year, a few other “healthy” food trends have dominated consumerism. Here’s a sampling:
Clean Labeling. Consumers have become more aware of what they are putting in their bodies and they are checking labels now more than ever. If they don’t recognize or can’t pronounce a chemical ingredient, many aren’t buying. Big brands have all started to make the move to try to completely remove or reduce the number of artificial ingredients in their products to help increase sales and health awareness.
Plant Based. More and more restaurants are offering dishes filled with just veggies. Forget the chicken and steak while plant-based dieting is not new, there are now 16 million people in the U.S. that are vegan or vegetarian.
Packaging. Advertising has shifted with all of the food talk being centered-around organic, all-natural, veganism, etc. Labels and packaging are taking on a more “earthly” look with browns and greens, and materials being sourced for production are eco-friendly.
