Dining trends are always changing; this is nothing new. Recently there seems to be a shift in the art of eating. Where you eat, how you eat, and what you eat are all a symbol of social status. Here are a few things that have shifted or are getting ready to shift in the food industry.
Healthy is the way to go. With our nation’s health in the spotlight, especially for children, restaurants are cleaning up their acts. Fast food and fast-casual restaurants are developing menus with a healthy twist. Consumers may see an increase in prices due to the more “all-natural” menus popping up at their favorite fast-food chain.
Vegetables are becoming the star of the show. Several restaurants are adopting the idea of veggies first, meat second. This trend is likely more than a fad with recent focus on the dangers of hormone-packed meat. So get ready to see carrots on more menus than just mom’s house.
The “Foodie-Instagrammer.” Dining trends aren’t just changing in regards to what you are eating, but also how you are eating. Millennials always have their phones in their hands and did something really happen if you didn’t take a picture? That saying is now applied to food.
Posting beautiful imagery online and in print ads is old news in the world of brand marketing. What is new this year is the idea of storytelling. Photographers, bloggers, and brands must present more than just a beautiful dish to set themselves apart. Atmospheres, animated gifs, and props are being set into the forefront. Check out Chobani and other big brands that are rockin’ it on Instagram.
Dining while shopping. We’ve all seen Starbucks inside Target or Subway inside Walmart. Well, the trend is expanding and it’s expanding into higher-end retail stores. Big brands in the automotive industry, Lexus and Porsche, are even adding cafés and upscale restaurants to their showrooms. Seriously though, who doesn’t want to decide on a $100k Porsche over steak and champagne? Look forward to getting your shopping and dinner done all in the same spot.
